What do we mean by Governance?
Governance refers to how an organisation is managed. It is the framework of rules, practices and policies by which a board of directors ensures accountability, fairness, transparency and sound ethics. The concept encompasses a variety of issues and affects everyone within the organisation. Governance is often not appreciated until things go wrong and poor governance, fraud, maladministration or slack procedures are blamed. Funders increasingly demand good governance from organisations.

Ageing Well Roe Valley (on behalf of Big Lottery Fund) - Governance Improvement
McGarry Consulting revised AWRV's constitution, committee structures and operations. We also created job descriptions, and established financial policies and procedures in an amicable manner to enable AWRV to get £1m funding from Big Lottery. AWRV was the lead partner among 5 organisations and up to 20 associates. Reviewing the governance included devising a new partnership agreement that suited the partners' needs, aspirations and aversion to risk.
Third Age Foundation – Governance Assistance
Third Age is one of the leading ageing support organisations in the Republic of Ireland. Third Age had grown quickly to 18 staff and 800 members, and encompassed many projects and programmes. We talked to each senior team member individually and as a group, and conducted research into the wider sector. We presented a clear and concise report, outlining industry context, key issues, and an analysis (findings and recommendations) of their strategy, board, management and organisational structures.
